The Pokémon Company International hosted its first-ever Pokémon World Championships, bringing together the world’s best Pokémon Trading Card Game players.
The second occurrence of the Pokémon World Championships once again brought the top Pokémon TCG players in the world together to compete for the grand title. The event marked the competition's first, but certainly not last, appearance in California.
As the Pokémon World Championships gained momentum, Pokémon TCG players continued to compete for the title of world champion.
For the first time, the Pokémon World Championships took place outside the continental United States, offering players an opportunity to travel to beautiful Hawaii.
This marked the final year that the Pokémon World Championships was solely comprised of Pokémon TCG competitions. This year also featured the Pokémon Video Game Showdown.
For the first time in Pokémon World Championships history, video games entered the competitive fray. Players competed in Pokémon Platinum as well as the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver made their competitive play debut in this year’s championships.
Unova took center stage at the Pokémon World Championships as Pokémon Black and Pokémon White made their world championship debut.
The competition took place in Hawaii, but Unova was central to the competition as Pokémon Black and Pokémon White were once again the focus of competitive video game play.
This year marked the first time the Pokémon World Championships was hosted outside of the United States, offering competitors an opportunity to travel to Canada.
Players competed in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y for the first time.
Pokkén Tournament made its World Championships debut through the Pokkén Tournament on the arcade version of the game prior to its WiiU release.
This was the first year Pokkén Tournament DX officially has a world championship. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire brought Hoenn to the forefront of that year’s championships.
Players bid a warm welcome to Alola as video game competition transitioned to Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.
The top Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon players competed for the world championship title, along with the top Pokémon TCG players and Pokkén Tournament DX players.
The Pokémon GO Invitational Event marked Pokémon GO’s first appearance at the Pokémon World Championships.
For the first time in history, the big event was held outside North America in London, England.
